For about five minutes I constantly took photos (as were others, and everyone else had their noise-making photo-taking Samsungs while I used my quiet iPhone). Sungyeol noticed, grabbed my phone (which had an Infinite keychain on it...), selected the Camera Roll, and started selecting all of the photos I took of him. At first I thought he was changing my background to him or was going to take a selca with me...but then he kept selecting photos (as I got a little carried away...) and once he selected them all, he tried to delete them. (You can only delete multiple selected photos on the Photos app, not Camera Roll...) so I showed him to do it individually while apologizing in Korean. I was so caught off guard and felt so guilty that I was using that scared, whiny, I'm-about-to-cry voice and kept saying 최승해요 and added 저는...delete. He deleted one photo and one video, and I deleted some more in front of him. He told me that he's deleting them in Korean and my friend translated. This was all with his straight face, as I felt so ashamed of myself. He then went back to behind the counter. Five to ten minutes later, at around 9:15, he and a manager left, with fangirls following closely behind.
My initial reaction and concluding thoughts: I honestly felt like I had become a sasaeng fan at that moment, and felt so ashamed that I should revoke my Inspirit life. I didn't want to associate myself with Infinite as I felt so ashamed at what I had become. (Even three hours later I'm still holding off watching their comeback stage. This is much worse than Myungsoo's scandal). As my first encounter with an idol (let alone him being my second bias), I didn't want him to remember me as *that* crazy girl. He singled me out and no one else, so in that sense I felt like I had crossed the line by taking so many photos. But after clearing my head and getting multiple opinions, I am clearly just an international fangirl who just wanted to eat at his restaurant, it's not like I wait out every night hoping he'll come to the restaurant so I can violate him. And it's clearly known that this is Sungyeol's restaurant and that he works here often, so therefore fans will come here to see him and take photos. This is clearly a marketing strategy, a really well-planned one too, for more customers to come. And everyone inside is also a fan to begin with, so of course people will take photos. But then also this is Sungyeol's personality at airports, how he avoids fans and whatnot. But thinking about airports, people activately follow Infinite to see exactly what time they'll be there and take photos and videos while I was actually going to the restaurant to eat. So what I'm getting at is, I've learned to tone down my fangirl feels (though it was perfectly accepted at Dongwoo's) and respect people's privacy (I definitely gave him space, I didn't try to go near him!). But I don't think I'm completely in the wrong...I'm just very confused now. All I know for sure is he held my phone, he stood right next to me, he knows I exist (but maybe not in a good way?).
I feel bad to post any photos from this trip, and I didn't dare take any more photos of the interior of the restaurant, even after he left. I can never show my face in the vicinity of this restaurant again, and I had to pay in cash for fear that they'll track down my credit card (I'm still on their security camera ㅠㅠ), so I'm a bit sad about that. But honestly, since there are hired workers here and not Sungyeol's family, and this is located in a bustling area, it has that type of restaurant feel where you have to act a certain, high class way. Versus Dongwoo's restaurant, I felt so homey, and being immersed in my surroundings was not just acceptable, but appreciated. And at Hoya's, where I did feel a little distant from his father, but it still had a nice, quaint hole-in-the-wall setting. I just hope I'll bounce back to my Infinite obsession soon as I've definitely over invested in their upcoming concert.
A few days later, I'm finally barely able to post some pictures from this visit. The banchan included radish cubes (which don't really go with fried chicken) and salad with noodles. We ordered boneless fried chicken, which came with fries, chips, and three sauces: ketchup, mustard and BBQ sauce. Honestly I couldn't savor this meal and have been trying to bury this dinner out of my memories so I don't have much else to say.

Deletein all honestly i feel so bad about u and my respect for yeol just dropped a lot :( i have had a similiar experience with gyu. during their ogs i went to paris to watch their concert and the next day when i was walking with my mom down some paris streets sunggyu came out of a car in the same place that i was. i waved at him and asked him nicely for a picture since i was the only fan around(not fangirling or anything. i didnt want to make him uncomfortable) and he refused and when he left i literally broke down in the middle of a foreign country and i kept crying for a week cuz gyu is my fav ifnt member and he literally didnt want to spend 3 seconds with a foreign fan to take a picture. that is a really hurtful experience for me and to this day 1 year+ later i am still sad and when i think about it yet he is still my fav member but this situation made me want to see his ''love for foreign fans'' in a different light

I am so sorry for your experience too, especially since there were no other fans it would have been nice if he could just spare the little time to take a selca with you :( It's amazing that he's still your favorite member despite what happened...for me, I still always get sad about the whole thing with Sungyeol too; I feel like our experiences will always be a part of us, but I'm happy that despite it, we're still Inspirits! I really commend you for still having Gyu as your favorite member though you've seen him in a "real" situation, because for me I just couldn't look at Yeol the same again...he's now my least favorite (by a long shot) but of course I still love OT7 and I accept that he's a part of Infinite. I hate saying this, but I'm so happy that we can relate to each other; I felt so alone and no one understood how I felt; people who didn't understand kpop said that Yeol was a jerk, some who knew kpop thought I was like a sasaeng fan, and others thought it was a bit of both. But it's nice just knowing that someone else has had a similar experience and is living with that pain every time we think about it. Hopefully if we ever somehow run into Infinite again, it'll be in a more positive light!
Deleteyeah i always try to think positively that i actually met him but on the other hand i wish i didnt cuz i really like him a look but deep down there is a slightly hate towards him. its not like it chances everything but i have decided if i ever see him again i wont talk to him, i would rather ask another member if there r but not him. i like him a lot but he has caused me great pain that i never thought he would. cuz i know yeah he was in his private life but i didnt even open my phone to video cam him cuz i found it disrespecting so i asked for a goddamn picture that would be my happy memory for all my life yet i have the painful memory for all my life. i tried to find it in a positive light but if i was in your position im sure yeol wouldnt be my fav anymore. he literally took ur phone and deleted ur precious photos. while korean fans see him almost everyday and have 1000s pics of him u had only a chance and he ruined it. and after i read your situation i am pretty sure there might be more fans like us out there that just dont speak about it. and it really makes me doubt all their tv image. its not that i believe their image 100% but the % i believe in their tv image has dropped. lets hope better days will come and we might have a change to get a good experience from them :)
DeleteI know how you feel, on the one hand it’s such a rare experience to see them coincidentally, but at the same time it was such a heartbreaking experience that I don’t know if it was worth it…because we can’t just naively forget the “real” them that we met. If I were to meet them…I thought Sungyeol was the least friendly to fans and I never expected Gyu to be like this, so now I’d be scared to approach any Infinite member! I wouldn’t want to know the truth about the other members…yah you were such a respectful fan for simply asking for a photo, and you weren’t actually bothering him and disrupting his private life. Ugh, that’s exactly how I feel; I was obviously the only international fan at Yeol’s restaurant at that time and wanted to bring back this precious memory, it’s not like I go to his restaurant and stalk him every day. And then like you said, those Korean fans who see Infinite practically every day, and at so many events; they practically see them for free so often too like they can take Infinite for granted, but for us who rarely get the chance to meet Infinite, why must they ruin it for international fans? If only somehow all the people who had experiences like ours could bond together to overcome our pain…I’m the most innocent person ever and believe their tv image though deep down I know it’s not accurate; I’m just afraid to learn more truths to each member and how they truly are! I hope there will be a good experience for us to override our bad experiences!

maybe i am overthiking but i honestly feel like hoya is the only one who genuinely likes the international fans. i remember during the world tour there were pics of him with fans in every city and if i ever see them again up close ill definitely just ask him for a picture. i think he wouldnt mind at all. but we never know i dont wanna judge them

I guess it’s fair that we shouldn’t expect much from them in terms of fan service while they’re not at an official event. I agree, everyone has negative qualities and it’s hard to always be in front of the camera and fans and to always show such a positive image as an idol. I think it has to do with the nationalistic pride, that’s why they are the best to K-Inspirits. But they have to understand how much more meaningful seeing our idols is for international fans, because it’s so rare for us. Why would they want to crush our dreams when clearly this is the only time we’re seeing them in person? Maybe they just feel closer to K-Inspirits since they’re the driving force to their success :/ But since like you said, we don’t know, so I won’t judge.
DeleteHoya did seem really nice and genuinely caring to international fans. After OGS LA ended, he and Myungsoo went out back, and Myungsoo was just leaning against the wall getting fresh air while Hoya was having fun with fans and kept waving his arms to energetically. It seems like Sungjong always takes selcas with fans everywhere too, he just always seems so happy and is always smiling for the camera. But I’ve never actually seen Sungjong in person so I don’t know if he’s really like that.
Somehow, we’ll get through this! I'm sorry I write so much, this whole thing's just affected me so much and no one seems to really understand because they've never experienced something like this. My non Korean kpop friends say Sungyeol still loves all his fans and was just having a bad day, but I don't think that was the case for me...
in all honestly they gained fame from kinspirits back in 2011 but if it wasnt for international fans they wouldnt be one of the groups with the highest wage and also a world tour would probably be a dream they would never make. basically 90% of their income comes from international fans money and international activities they make. their youtube videos woul probably have less than 200.000 views if they depended only on kinspirits. yeah they love korean fans more, its obvious but i really dont get it how american/british famous singers always appreciate all the fans not only their countries ones. tbh this international fans/korean fans is one of the things that makes me really sad specially of infinite cuz for example super junior treats all fans equally but oh well we cant do anything about it.

That is so so so true, clearly Infinite is popular around the world and therefore they’re able to have a world tour that went to so many countries. And their world tour was a legit world tour too, not one that just went around Asia. And while they promote so much in Korea, so many of their events are free and K-Inspirits are more just like a cheering squad (though of course they do vote a lot on music shows to make them win) while international fans actually buy so much merchandise and watch youtube videos and whatnot. Yah I don’t get how American/British singers appreciate all their fans so well, that’s so true. Wow really, Super Junior treats all their fans equally? So is it just Infinite that’s like that, or are most kpop groups like Infinite?

most kpop groups r like infinite xD ive seen a lot of interviews and also a lot of other fandoms complaining that they r not treated equally from their groups. i have noticed that super junior some times write in english for fans to understand, siwon always writes in english. i have seen pics of fans with them in every country and i'm not even an elf so i cant be 100% sure but from what i have seen the international fans really get treated well and appreciated as well

DeleteI bought the DVD. OMG I am also soooo disappointed Woollim didn't release OGS on DVD. First off, they love making money off of Inspirits and releasing every single Korean concert prior to that, so why would they skip OGS? Also because it's a world tour, so many more international fans would buy it since they went everywhere. And it would make Infinite look that much more amazing by releasing a DVD showing they went around the world, and that they were able to interact with fans despite language barriers. Why are they releasing OGSR on DVD and as a live CD, why are they making so much off of that and not off of OGS...I was so disappointed as well lol; sorry, I just figured you'd understand this too being someone who went to OGS.

But I think that’s Woollim’s strategy, to get everyone buying the Japanese albums and then releasing the Korean version so everyone will have to buy that as well.

DeleteI was thinking more about not releasing a OGS DVD, and maybe it's because during the Seoul leg, the members were getting emotional about the SM merger and spent a chunk of their ending ments talking about it. I'm sure SM wouldn't want to release a DVD of Infinite talking and crying over the merger.
i think that in the ending speech they could have made a compilation of their speeches in different countries and not necessarily the one in seoul but idk. all i want is a new world tour cuz its been almost 2 years and i wanna see them again

I went to London OGN and Sunggyu looked so happy to be there and see his international fans and when he gave his goodbye speech he almost teared up.. so I wouldn't have imagined he would act cold towards you when you met him. This makes me wonder whether he was sincere. Maybe he was just in a bad mood that day or didn't want to take a picture without makeup o.O
But not all members are like that. My friend and I met Hoya and Woohyun the day after the concert. They were waiting for a van after eating at a restaurant. We were too shocked to actually say or ask for something but Woohyun greeted us first (3 times at that because of our slow reaction lol), high-fived us and said goodbye when the van came. He must really like all fans, I was so thankful and sorry that I didn't like his greasiness beforeㅠㅠ Although Hoya was just standing there he didn't seem annoyed or anything and I think if we had tried to talk to him he would have answered back. Now I regret it a bit that we didn't try since he's our bias. Anyway I'm so happy to have met them and hope your next experience can be similar to ours^^ also hope the other members are just as nice as the other two.
Thank you for being so kind and understanding, it's always nice hearing other Inspirits' fanaccounts~ I don't know why he only called me out either, and let everyone else take pictures >.< I wonder that too, how sincere they're being when they say they're grateful of fans. I think they genuinely are sincere and grateful, especially on stage, but during off stage maybe they just want to be alone and not always have that "idol" outlook.

ReplyDeleteOn my trip there, I went to Dongwoo & Sungyeol's restaurants, as well as Woollim Ent (NIT Coffee). I was luckier, my only bad experience in the trips were Inspirit fangirls related.
At Sungyeol's restaurant, I was a bit afraid, cause I read your blog before heading there. Sungyeol wasn't there, so I took a lot of pictures of the interior. Sungyeol's father smiled when he saw me taking pictures and was way more pleasant after seeing that I'm an Inspirit.
Dongwoo's restaurant, both his parents are really really nice! When we were going in, his mom was outside. The moment she saw us, she asked us if we are Inspirit. Later, my friend asked whether there's wifi available, and his dad said no. Then his dad asked us if we are from Thailand, we told him no, we are from Malaysia. I took a lot of pictures of the interior. After the meal, we talked a lot with Dongwoo's mom. I showed her some pictures of OGS in MY and even took a picture with her. She then asked if we like coffee, cause Dongwoo's favourite coffeeshop is just across the road. She asked us to visit there. We didn't cause I'm caffeine intolerant (Note: Dongwoo's 27 May tweet is taken in that coffeeshop).
For Woollim, we were really lucky. Dongwoo waltzes out of the front door and started dancing and entertaining us. He even took an instagram vid of us in the background (26 April video). He kept posing, etc etc for us then before leaving in the van. Sungjong rolled down his window in the van, peeked out and waved at us. Woohyun... we only saw his hand.. his van drove past NIT, then he rolled down the window, showed his hand/arm, and waved then showed a peace sign.
Since we were so lucky we thought we'll go back again. We did, but didnt see Infinite at all but kept seeing Lovelyz, walking in and out. I took a lot of pictures but the Inspirit fangirls from Australia next to me were like "U took a lot of photos right?! Don't post it online.. We see a lot of people posting on Twitter and all, those are stupid fans." we were kinda offended, so my friend and I decided to leave.

Haha yea I was a bit cautious but realised later I didn't have to. I suspect, your bad experience is due to Sungyeol being there himself. When I was there, it seems like most of the customers are not even Inspirits. The BBQ chicken restaurant is apparently a franchise of chain restaurants in Korea (like how McD works) so people go there for the chicken anyway.
DeleteDongwoo's mom is SO friendly.. really so friendly. My friend and I were struggling cause the octopus was really spicy but his mom came and wrapped up the meat in the leaf for us, telling us to eat it that way cause its less spicy. We only started talking with his mom when she was free as most of the customers have left. You can clearly see his parents are really supportive of his job as an idol.
Lovelyz.. well I gotta say, I saw them so many times that I almost couldn't be bothered lol. We went to Music Core during my trip too, and saw Lovelyz performing then too. Ji Ae is really petite, she walked like 1m away from us? No one approached Lovelyz at all when they walk in and out.. but then again.. it depends on the fans around on that day. First day we were there, fans were very supportive and all called Lovelyz members one by one. Second day, were those fangirls. I didn't bother myself too much though but my friend was really pissed. We had the same thoughts, like how we are only here once in like so long. Plus, the idols knew that we are all inspirits and that we are taking photos. They would've known that whatever they do will be posted online anyway (part and parcel of the job).

ReplyDeleteThe octopus was REALLY spicy. Too bad I didn't really like the mint leaves, so it kinda destroyed the taste for me, even though it helps with the spiciness. But Dongwoo's mom was really really nice throughout my whole meal and time there.
When it comes to Music Shows, its really hard to get in. You need to understand Korean, register for fanclub, register for the day's broadcast, purchase the relevant album/single/digital single, find the right line, then go in. I wasn't even sure whether I could get in. I went for The Ark, since I really like their debut song and their line would've been shorter. P.S. Don't bother with getting in with the INFINITE line, cause its WAY too long (too many fans).
We couldn't believe our own luck too. It's my first time in Korea, and our first time there and we get to see Dongwoo dancing and waltzing around, enjoying himself and giving fan service. On top of that, we appeared on Dongwoo's instagram even! What made it more special is cause Dongwoo is #2 in my bias list (Myungsoo is forever 1st). In OGS KL, Dongwoo was also the one who pointed at me cause he saw my huge fan (one side says INFINITE in Korean, the other side, Myungsoo). Then he laughed his adorable laugh when he saw my reaction (jumping up and down in excitement cause he pointed at me)! I managed to get good photos cause I was in the rock zone, but mostly are of Myungsoo.. and provided I managed to keep my hands steady. Most of my photos were blurry cause I was way too excited during the concert. :D
Oh and NIT Coffee? Since I am caffeine-intolerant, I ordered the Yoghurt Smoothie. Was really good. :)

DeleteGoing to music shows isn't impossible. You just need to know how to. I'm lucky cause I have a friend who taught us how to get in but we still struggled to find the right line, to register for the fanclub and stuff (thankfully my friend can read Korean). Going under a fanclub.. it depends on whether you are going to the pre-recording session or the full show. If it's the pre-recording session, then chances are you only see the group that you support. I went for the full show, cause The Ark didn't have a pre-recording session that day. So we saw all the other groups, Exid, EXO, etc.
Well, it wasn't that long wait until Dongwoo appeared... I would think it's less than an hour. Best moment of OGS KL though - Dongwoo's pointing xD Actually.. we weren't allowed to record any videos or take any photos. The security was really strict. They kept walking in between us to stop any photo taking or video recording.. some of them was real rude. Sungjong was visibly upset at the security's treatment of us. He was standing in front of us. At one point, when the guard rudely pushed down a girl's hand holding a camera, Sungjong glared at the guard. It was during Makkyeo when the guards gave up on our photo-taking or video-recording, cause the members took selfies with cameras. So we can then freely take videos or pictures. Thus why my videos are like.. just snippets before makkyeo and full videos after makkyeo. The VVIP ticket holders were clearly upset after the event though cause security is more strict with seated ticket holders since it's easier to monitor. So VVIP ticket holders didn't get to take any pictures/videos. I have some videos here... note that my hands are pretty shaky.

Members were clearly pissed! Jongie was soooo adorable! I considered VVIP, but knowing INFINITE, the VVIP seats would be too far. So I opted for Rock Zone. I rewatched quite a bit earlier too :D I remembered how we chanted 'Saranghae Saranghae' during the last song. Gyu was like nodding along with the chant, Myungsoo smiled whenever he hears it. And the fan project, where we held banners 'Let's walk together till the end'. Everyone was holding it, from the rock zone, to the stands. I saw Dongwoo purposely bend down to read the text in the banner.
I saw NIT Kitchen but not opened yet. NIT Shop is under construction. They had this sign, saying under construction.

Hehe I'm glad you chose the closer section! Aww, that's so touching, how the members were connecting with the audience especially during the fans chanting. I'm really jealous how the audiences in Asia are so united, whereas in OGS LA, we only held up Dongwoo's birthday banner in unison though we had many banners, and we didn't do fan chants or sing Happy Birthday to Dongwoo...I feel like all that is definitely a big part of getting the most out of a concert.
Ahh I wonder when NIT Kitchen and NIT Shop will actually be ready. I saw that sign saying they'll sell Infinite Bears...I hope they're not like the ones at Coex Artium...those SM products look like they're just exploiting fans by making random products with Infinite's name on them.
Honestly, I was surprised how well it turned out too. I remember attending JYJ's showcase, and the fanclub prepared quite a few activities, but nothing turned out well. TVXQ was pretty decent too. I've only been to those 2 concerts and T-Ara.. the rest are like Golden Disk Awards, etc. where it's not just one band. Nothing was prepared for Running Man though. That's why, when I realised INFINITE MY fanclub was preparing 2 activities for the concert, plus asking all the fans to memorise ALL the fanchants, I was like telling them.. this just won't work. Fans will not take so many instructions. I was clearly wrong... Fans were chanting the fanchant for all the songs, in addition to following the planned surprises properly, although one of the idea didn't really work, cause it's just... not doable. They asked us to throw some ribbon during Makkyeo, but wrong idea. Ribbon supposedly will flow nicely, but when we threw it, it finishes in like 1 second... so the effect wasn't there. The concert was interesting though because I really didn't expect the fan project to turn out as well as it did.

Don't expect too much from NIT Shop. They are now technically a part of SM. I mean, even their CD prices are now on par with SM when they used to be way cheaper. In fact, I don't think it'll run far from what u saw at Coez Atrium.
Wow, you've been to so many concerts and events, I'm so jealous! That's really cool how dedicated and organized the Infinite activities were; I'm really happy and amazed that everyone did all the fanchants and went through with all the planned surprises. Lol that's too bad about the ribbon surprise, but it's still really cool that everyone participated in that anyways. That sounds like such an overall amazing concert experience, how all the fans actively participated in the events and showed their support for Infinite!
DeleteYah for LA, there were a lot of small fanclubs that were passing out banners to use at specific songs, and I think people just didn't really care to follow, so we didn't use them :/
Ugh, that's sad how they're following SM's marketing strategy...I thought the merger was intended only on financing Woollim and distributing their merchandise, but I didn't think they'd be creating all these SM-like merchandise as well. And now they're releasing Taiwanese versions of Infinite's albums too. I didn't notice their album prices being more expensive, but it's believable.
Yeah I've been to quite a few. I'm a working adult, so I have the money to spare for concerts. :) A bunch of them were free even (eg. Running Man) cause I have a media friend who could bring me in.

Well I'm sure the merger was originally intended to finance Woollim, but being in a 'merger', SM is bound to pressure Woollim in some ways, primarily when it comes to marketing. It seems like production of music and artists management remain untouched, but when it comes to marketing, SM is helping out in obvious ways - SM Town participation, SM Facebook, etc. I'm sure SM has a hand in helping Lovelyz grow too, or at the very least, exerting their influence for broadcast time/slots.
A friend of mine whom I asked to buy INFINITE album on my behalf, told me that when he was there, he saw how the albums were like cheaper pre-SM, and way more expensive after merger.

That's true, SM was bound to "influence" Woollim eventually. Honestly, I think the merger is really good for Woollim. No future financial worries and free publicity amongst SM stans and the SM influence. Lovelyz especially, would not reach where they are today without SM. They lack the talent required, but with the INFINITE card + SM's influence, they now have a rather big fanbase.

Yah that's true, Lovelyz is probably doing a lot better than without the merger, exposing them to all those SM stans. I hope it can help out Tasty too, I feel like they've been on the back burner for so long. Of course just accepting being associated with SM is kind of hard, especially since Woollim and Infinite achieved so much despite coming from very little and working hard to get where they are today without the help of some big name company.

Shipping to the US is heartbreaking, it's now about $6USD to ship a CD and $15 to ship a DVD. And my items always arrived damaged too :/ That's nice there are so many resellers in Malaysia for Kpop stuff. For Japanese merch, there aren't resellers there?
Tasty... I don't know what Woollim/SM can do to help them. They just don't stand out in anyway, other than being identical twins. Yea a lot of fans still are unable to accept that they are both one and the same now, both the SM and woollim side.
DeleteWell when I say resellers, I mean individual sellers from fanclubs or such on Facebook. Profit margin is low so it's not so expensive. For Japanese merch, there's only one, but she only buys them whenever she goes to Japan. So it's either really slow or not at all.
Yah I feel like Tasty doesn't really fit in as typical idols, but they're not hardcore hiphop or anything either, so like you said, they don't really stand out in any way.

Just found this article randomly after one of my friend told me about "yeol grabbed fans's phone and deleted all photo". Thank you for sharing your story, indeed I feel bad for you, wish you are okay now although you may still cant get over it. If I were you, I will feel the same thing.. I may feel happy finally yeol touch my stuff.. even I talked to him.. but obviously with not this kind situation.. it would be great if he could give me autograph.. or even smile and wave at me.. but whats happened to you sounds not really good experience.. even I am yeol fans.. big fans.. he's my only one bias since INF debut. But this attitude seems too cold.. yes, I keep asking my friend about this case, I keep try to read yeol's personality, can u imagine if he asked other people to grab your phone? its going to so rude. so I think he lower his image in front of his fans, and tried to talk to fans directly (although he seems so cold that time TT, I feel sorry about this). but don't ya know, me and my friend keep called his name in airport like a crazy ahjumma, but he still kept looking straight, we even brought our banner until he came to the car (please forgive this babo action hahahaha), but he even didn't noticed us at all, can you imagine how sad was that hahahaha sad and funny lol ~ I wish you have another chance to visit his BBQ restaurant, so you could feel another moment that could erase your bitter experience TT, or myb I'm going to there soon, and will confirm to you bout my experience later, I promise hahahaha. I was one of them hahah he wasn't wearing any makeup and didn't expect us to be there... It was when LOTJ cast were leaving. He rejected taking photos with us, but he did signed our albums and was nice to us ^^ That's enough for me. It still was one of the happiest days of my life and the other Inspirit were happy too! We kept talking about it for weeks lol His manager was an a$$ tho we were nice and kept our distance but he yelled at us and asked us several times to leave :/ Despite that Yeol signed our stuff when his manager disappeared for a moment lol

I don't want to remove this post because I think there is a good moral that people can learn - for international fans who aren't used to being around idols, I think we should learn to overcome our excessive fangirling at first sight of an idol and fully respect the idol for making a public appearance. I know I was wrong to take so many excessive photos, and I understand why Yeol would have been upset. But from this experience, I have learned to control my fangirling and when I met Woohyun's brother after meeting Yeol, I learned to completely control myself to behave normally. Maybe instead of deleting this post, I'll emphasize that people should treat this as a learning experience.

DeleteI agree, it's best if we don't have such high expectations on our idols. I wish they'd show appreciation towards international fans, who support them in ways different from K-fans. But do know, not everyone is like this! I met Woohyun's brother and parents, and Hoya's dad, and Dongwoo's dad, and they were all so so so friendly. Woohyun's brother was really happy to have international fans at his restaurant!

Well yep, yesterday I talked abt it with my friend (she is an inspirit also). And she said the same thing like you, she said we never know what is the real life of our "IDOL". so don't expect too much. if you can meet them in real life just enjoy it and if you can take a picture with them its a bonus. and yes I'll try to have good thoughts abt gyu.

I'm not gonna lie, as a new Inspirit who's relatively new in the K-Pop fandom, this truly upset me. Not that I was expecting idols to be actually nice in real life, but to put up a good front only to lose it while off-cam throws me off.
ReplyDeleteSungyeol isn't really on top of my bias list, but I like him. But after reading your exchanges, I have changed my mind. I really feel sorry about your interaction with him. It must have been very hard for you. I also feel bad for the fan who was turned down by Sunggyu, my ultimate bias and the very reason why I became an Inspirit. I would just like to think he was in a bad mood that day or there was some disconnect between the way they communicated. Sunggyu might have misunderstood the entire situation. We'll never know. But still, at the end of the day, it was pretty rude.
I was actually planning on visiting their restaurants when I go to Korea, but reading your account made me think twice. I will surely go to Dongwoo's. He and his family seem genuinely nice. But Sungyeol's? Well... nope.
This really adds up to the stress of their re-contracting with Woollim. I have been thinking about it for so long. In fact, I even fell ill 2 weeks ago because of it! I'm glad I stumbled upon your account. Now, I kinda have an idea of their true selves and I can cut back on stanning them. I still love Infinite, but I guess this is like the heavens telling me to stop obsessing over them and get a life.

DeleteI definitely still suggest going to Dongwoo's and Woohyun's restaurants, as their families are very nice and care about their customers very much. Their restaurants were much more homely and located in more secluded areas, whereas Sungyeol's is part of a chain restaurant in a busy area.

I was planning to go to korea, I want to visit Infinite family restaurant and also NIT Coffee.. but maybe I'll just enjoy the food. I will take pictures but maybe the interior and the foods, I will resist myself to take photo of them, if they will be in the restaurant. Maybe I'll go to woohyun's or dongwoo's to chat with their family but for sungyeol's and daeyeol's (the brother) bbq.. I'll just enjoy the food :)

I m a new Inspirit (2.5 months into the fandom to be exact) & Im Sungyeol bias. The reason to get into the fandom was the drama Hi School Love On. I was attracted to Sungyeol then I found his kpop group Infinite and became an Inspirit. I've been searching a lot about him and have read your article in this regard. I found you are very good and kind nature person and I'm confused since Ive chosen him as bias that why he is like he is. I can recall he acted cold towards his mother in a show may be Sesame Player? Where he brought water melon to home and coldly forbid his mother to take it as it was brought for his band mates. He could have talked humbly to his mom. Then he is cold to his brother Daeyeol as well during those days, I hope he has gotten better with them. I can relate to him a lot as I am myself August born, B type and having Major Depression problems but still I can't defend him on his attitude towards his family and fans. I love him and will keep on loving him cause that is what Ive found out in myself after finding that all. He should respect the fame given to him and respect his parents to become a great personality in life. Since these are the milestones to be achieved in order to be great. I am criticising him only for his good. I want him to be great. Please accept my sorry on behalf of him. I hope you will be feeling better. I hope he might realise some day that he needs to be a little humble to all around him.

And I am really truly happy that you found Infinite through Hi School Love On and it totally makes sense that he's your bias because of it! (I saw Shut Up Flower Boy Band and that's how I learned about Infinite and became Myungsoo biased!). I am very grateful that you see me as a good and kind nature person and am pleasantly surprised that you are criticizing him for his own good; I completely understand that idols shouldn't be planting a smile 24/7 for fans and that it is hard to always have a front, and I might have caught him on an off day. But like you brought up, he does seem naturally cold to his family too even as long ago as Sesame Player; some things just are hard to change I guess. (On another note, I've also met Daeyeol when he was off schedule and found that he is the SWEETEST MOST NICEST person on the planet. I'm so grateful to have met Daeyeol which most definitely counteracted with my experience with Sungyeol!). It's been 4.5 years since meeting Sungyeol and I still feel sad about it and my feelings for him have definitely changed, but I still truly support Sungyeol and Infinite! And yes, Myungsoo and Daeyeol are 2 really blessing souls and well mannered persons around him. He should learn from them as Sungyeol admires Myungsoo a lot. Myunsgsoo is such a well mannered and kind guy, I have seen him saying thanks to each staff member in person after finishing his shoot, I admire him a lot. And Daeyeol is always looking for his elder brother's affection (thank you for telling that he is extremely sweet cus that's what I perceived about him.) Only if he could know that he has so many people to influence, including his die-hard fans who literally die because of these kind of little insensitive gestures. I really did not wanted to write a hate comment or what not but I am so disappointed in him (and I want to point out the wrong so that he could become better. And yes, idols are not supposed to be smiling 24/7 yet they are not supposed to be rude and cold instead. You’re absolutely right, Sungyeol does have such kind-hearted souls (Myungsoo and Daeyeol), I really do hope Sungyeol can take after them. That is such a good point – I hope Sungyeol does realize that there are so many people who look up to him and that little insensitive gestures can greatly affect us. You’re definitely the bigger person here to point out his actions rather than ignore it. Also you should really be a philosopher; what you said about wrong is wrong, right is right, is really deep and that’s going to stick with me for a long time!
